The Starling Bank Bikes should operate and remain within a large, designated zone agreed with our partners in Manchester, Salford and Trafford. The red line shows the zone limits on the cycle hire app, the TfGM and Beryl websites.

If you hire a Starling Bank Bike within the zone, you can cross the zone boundaries with no penalties as long as you finish your ride and lock the bike back in a bike hire station within the zone.

If you lock a bike outside the operating zone, a £25 "Out of Zone" will apply. You'll still be able to unlock the bike and ride back into the zone, but be aware the "Out of Zone" fee is applied every time you lock the bike outside the zone. This charge applies even if you just lock the bike for a short time, e.g. to nip into a shop. For this purpose, we recommend that you pause your ride. (See how to pause your ride).

Can I hire from one zone and park in another zone?

Yes, so long as you park the bike back into a bike hire station in the new zone, you can travel within zones. If you were to travel to another zone but leave the bike outside of a bike hire station, you would be charged a £10 out of bay fee.

Hiring the bike outside the zone

You can hire a bike from outside a zone. No extra charges will apply if you ride it back into the zone and lock it within a bike hire station. If you don't take it back to the zone but instead lock it outside the zone, the £25 "Out of Zone" fee will apply, even if you were not the user who initially took the bike outside the zone.
