Enjoy Norwich - Car Free!
To celebrate the annual Car Free Day, we've teamed up with Pushing Ahead, a Norfolk County Council, to go one better and bring you Car Free Week.
For Car Free Week, enjoy free rides for all Beryl Bike trips ending in a Beryl Bay. Please see below for conditions of the promotion.
The free riding period will run from Monday 21st September at 00:01 until Sunday 27th September at 23:59 inclusive.
How do I access the free rides?
All users in Norwich will automatically be able to access the free rides. You'll see a small pink present icon indicating that the promotion is live.
If you don't have an account yet, download the Beryl app here and follow the simple steps to sign up. You'll need to add your card details to hire a bike - this will only be charged if you end a ride out of bay or out of zone, or your ride exceeds the free period (see below).
How long can I ride for free?
The length of free rides depends on the type of bike you hire.
For Beryl pedal bikes: free unlock + 30 minutes riding free
For Beryl e-Bikes: free unlock + 15 minutes ride free
Can I ride for longer than 30 minutes (pedal bike) / 15 minutes (e-bike)?
For pedal bikes, only the first 30 minutes of a ride are free. If your ride is longer than 30 minutes, you'll be charged our standard rate for the remainder of your ride (5p per minute) or minutes will be deducted from your minute balance. You can take as many 30 minute rides as you like.
For e-bikes, only the first 15 minutes of a ride are free. If your ride is longer than 15 minutes, you'll be charged our standard rate for the remainder of your ride (10p per minute) or minutes will be deducted from your minute balance. You can take as many 15 minute rides as you like.
How many free rides can I take?
You can take as many free rides as you like during the period of the promotion. Only the first 30 minutes of pedal bike rides or 15 minutes of e-bike rides will be free of charge.
Will I have to pay out of bay and out of zone fees?
Yes, all out of bay and out of zone fees apply during the free riding promotion.
Norwich out of bay fee: £5
Norwich out of zone fee: £10
Remember you can lock your bike and pause your ride for up to 15 minutes without out of bay/out of zone fees (for example if you need to drop into a shop or go to the loo!). The time limits for free rides include any time your ride is paused.
What happens to my Minute Bundle during the promotion period?
If you already have a minute bundle, the minutes will remain in your account and will be there waiting for you to use once the free riding period is over!
Do I need to have a payment card associated to my account?
You must have a valid payment card registered on your account in order to unlock a bike, even during a Free Ride promotion. Our system will run a pre-authorisation check on your card when you attempt to unlock a bike and you must have at least £1 available on the card in order to pass this check. This is to ensure you have funds available for any out of bay or out of zone fees you incur.
