Beryl Bikes can be unlocked two different ways:

Contactless

Android devices
Simply hold the phone over the unlock pad in the centre of the handlebars until you hear a chime and the lock on the rear wheel snap open.

iOS devices
Open the app and tap the unlock button. Then hold your device over the unlock pad in the centre of the handlebars until you hear a chime and the lock on the rear wheel snap open.

Bike ID

Not all devices are contactless enabled. In this case, you can unlock the bike using its unique bike ID. Simply open the app and tap the unlock button. Then enter the 6-digit bike ID found on the unlock pad in the centre of the handlebars.

Even if contactless unlocking is compatible with your phone, you can still unlock the bike using the bike ID.

Android devices
At the bottom of your screen tap "unlock help". This will show a menu which will give you the option to unlock with bike ID. You can then enter the 6-digit bike ID found on the unlock pad in the centre of the handlebars.

iOS devices
Slide up the unlock card at the bottom of your screen to reveal the unlock help. Tap "unlock help". This will show a menu which will give you the option to unlock with bike ID. You can then enter the 6-digit bike ID found on the unlock pad in the centre of the handlebars.

Troubleshooting

The lock is stuck
Make sure the lock is free to open and is not obstructed by the spokes of the wheel.

If the lock is free to open but is still having issues, try manually pulling up the lock pin or giving it a wiggle to aid the lock in opening. Try this before and during the unlocking process.

Bike is unavailable
When attempting to unlock the bike, you will receive a message letting you know if the bike is unavailable to hire. Bikes are made unavailable if they have been marked in need of of repair or pick up by our team. We suggest locating another bike and continuing your journey.
