We have different options available for payment so you can choose the best option for your rides. Payment depends on how long you are riding for; whether you end your ride by locking the vehicle in a bay or in a free-floating location; and whether you hire a standard pedal bike, a Beryl e-Bike or a Beryl e-Scooter.

Option 1: Pay As You Ride

This option is best for a single ride.

Pedal Bikes

Unlocking fee £1.

Price per minute £0.05/min.

Example: You unlock the bike and ride for 15 minutes. You end the ride in a Beryl Bay.

You pay: £1 unlock fee + (5p x 15 minutes) = £1 + 75p = £1.75.

e-Bikes

Unlocking fee £1.50.

Price per minute £0.12/min.

Example: You unlock the vehicle and ride for 15 minutes. You end the ride in a Beryl Bay. You pay a £1.50 unlocking fee, plus 15 minutes at £0.12/min = £3.30.

e-Scooters

Unlocking fee £1.50.

Price per minute £0.14/min.

Example: You unlock the vehicle and ride for 15 minutes. You end the ride in a Beryl Bay. You pay a £1.50 unlocking fee, plus 15 minutes at £0.14/min = £3.60.

Option 2: Minute Bundles

This option is best for regular riders. You buy a bundle of minutes upfront and we deduct minutes from your balance depending on how long you ride for. The cost of one minute of riding is 5p.

Pedal bikes

Unlocking fee £0.

Price per minute £0.05/min.

Example: You unlock the bike and ride for 15 minutes. You end the ride in a Beryl Bay.

You pay no unlocking fee, but 15 minutes will be deducted from your balance at the cost of £0.05/min. This equates to £0.75.

e-Bikes and e-Scooters

The £1.50 charge for unlocking the vehicle still applies, but the cost is £0.05/min. You save up to 9p per minute this way!

Example: You unlock the vehicle and ride for 15 minutes. You end the ride in a Beryl Bay. You pay a £1.50 unlocking fee, but 15 minutes will be deducted from your balance at the cost of £0.05/min. This equates to £2.25.

Option 3: Day Pass

This option is best for long days out.

The Day Pass includes unlimited rides on Beryl Pedal Bikes only within 24 hours £12.

Watford only: we offer a Day Pass that covers both Pedal Bikes and e-Bikes £16.

If you have a Day Pass, you won't be charged for unlocking a bike or ending a ride outside a Beryl Bay while the pass is valid. At the end of the 24 hour period, the bike should be left in a Beryl Bay.

Please note: Day Passes cannot be used to hire a Beryl e-Bike or e-Scooter (unless otherwise stated). If you have an active Day Pass and hire an e-Bike or e-Scooter, you will be charged accordingly for the use of the e-Bike or e-Scooter.

Other charges

Out-of-bay parking

You'll be charged the convenience fee if you are on a Pay-as-you-ride or Minute Bundle pass, and end your ride outside a Beryl Bay. The convenience fee covers the operational cost incurred to return the vehicle to a bay so another user can ride.

Out-of-bay fee:

Bournemouth, Poole & Christchurch, Hereford, Watford £5.

Norwich, Isle of Wight £10.

Out-of-zone parking

Beryl Bikes operate within large operating zones, agreed with the local authority.

If you lock a vehicle outside the operating zone, a fee will be charged.

Hereford £5.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, Watford £10.

Norwich £20.

Isle of Wight: £25

If the vehicle is not brought back into the operating zone within 24 hours, an additional £80 fee will be charged to cover the cost of recovering the bike.

Unlocked Vehicle Fee

At the end of your ride, please make sure you lock your vehicle correctly whether in or out of a bay. When you lock the vehicle, it will chime to let you know. Please check in the app to make sure your vehicle has correctly registered as locked.

If you forget to lock your vehicle and leave it unlocked, your journey will continue. Unlocked and unattended vehicles are at higher risk of being stolen or vandalised, and will not appear as available on the app to other users who may need it.

A flat fee of £10 will be charged to cover the cost of us sending our operations team out to lock the vehicle on your behalf. If you have accumulated a large bill due to the vehicle being unlocked for a long period, this will be refunded and the £10 charge will be applied.
