We have different options available for payment so you can choose the best option for your rides in Norwich. You are charged by the minute, plus any base fees and additional charges.

Option 1: Pay As You Ride

Pedal bikes: £1 to unlock, plus 8p per minute.

e-Bikes: £1 to unlock, plus 16p per minute.

e-Scooters: £1 to unlock, plus 20p per minute.

This option is best for a single ride. You pay the unlocking fee as a base charge, then the Price Per Minute is added to the base charge. At the end of the ride, we calculate how long you used the vehicle for and your card will be charged.

Example: You ride an e-scooter for 15 minutes, and end the journey in a designated Beryl Bay. You pay a £1.00 unlocking fee, plus 15 mins at £0.20/min = £4.00

Option 2: Minute Bundles

50 minutes: £8

100 minutes: £16

200 minutes: £32

300 minutes: £48

Pedal bikes: Free unlock, 1 minute for every 2 minutes ridden automatically deducted from your minute balance.

e-Bikes: Free unlock, minutes automatically deducted from your minute balance.

e-Scooters: Free unlock, minutes automatically deducted from your minute balance.

This option is best for regular riders. You buy a bundle of minutes before you ride and we deduct your riding time from your balance. There will be no unlock charges and if you use a pedal bike you will double your minutes*

Example: You ride an e-Bike for 15 mins and end your journey in a designated Beryl Bay. You will only be deducted the 15 minutes from your balance as there are no longer any unlocking fees on all vehicles.

Option 3: Day Pass - Available for all vehicles

This option is best for long days out. Grab a Day Pass for just £16, capped at 200 minutes and get double your minutes* if you ride a pedal bike.

  • valid for 24 hours

  • Free unlocks on all bikes and scooters

  • 200 minutes included (*double minutes when using a pedal bike)

  • No single journey time limit

*Double your minutes on pedal bikes means exactly that

For example:

6 minutes on an e-bike will take 6 minutes from your Minute Bundle or Day Pass

6 minutes on a pedal bike will only take 3 minutes from your Minute Bundle or Day Pass

Additional charges

Out-Of-Bay Fee: £10

You'll be charged the convenience fee if you end your ride outside of a designated parking bay.

The fee covers the operational cost incurred to return the bike to a bay so another user can ride.

Out-of-Zone Fee: £20

Beryl operates within large operating zones, agreed with the local authority. If you end your journey outside the red-outlined zone on your in-app map, you will be charged a fee.

Out-of-Zone Fee +24 hours: £80

If the bike is not brought back into the operating zone within 24 hours, an additional fee will be charged to cover the cost of recovering the bike.

Unlocked Vehicle Fee: £10

Please check in the app to make sure your vehicle has correctly registered as locked.

A flat fee is applied in place of a time based journey cost when a user fails to lock their bike at the end of their journey, or fails to end their Scooter journey in the app. Users must physically secure the bicycle by locking the rear compartment and, if applicable in some schemes, the front compartment as well. For Scooter journeys, users must end the journey in the app.
