We have different options available for payment so you can choose the best option for your rides in Hereford. You are charged by the minute, plus any base fees and additional charges.

Option 1: Pay As You Ride

Pedal bikes: £1 to unlock, plus 5p per minute.

e-Bikes: £1.50 to unlock, plus 12p per minute.

Cargo bikes: £1.50 to unlock, plus 20p per minute.

This option is best for a single ride. You pay the unlocking fee as a base charge, then the Price Per Minute is added to the base charge. At the end of the ride, we calculate how long you used the vehicle for and your card will be charged.

Example: You ride a Pedal Bike for 15 minutes, and end the journey in a designated Beryl Bay. You pay a £1 unlocking fee, plus 15 mins at £0.05/min = £1.75.

Option 2: Minute Bundles (not valid on Cargo Bikes)

100 minutes: £5

200 minutes: £10

300 minutes: £15

400 minutes: £20

Minute bundles work out to cost 5p/ minute.

Pedal bikes: Free unlock, minutes automatically deducted from your minute balance.

e-Bikes: £1.50 to unlock, minutes automatically deducted from your minute balance.

Minutes are not valid for cargo bikes.

This option is best for regular riders. You buy a bundle of minutes before you ride and we deduct your riding time from your balance. The cost of one minute of riding is 5p.

Example: You ride an e-Bike for 15 mins, and end your journey in a designated Beryl Bay. You pay £1.50 unlocking fee as a base charge, plus 15 mins. You will be charged £1.50 to your bank account, and 15 minutes will be deducted from your balance at the value of £0.75.

Option 3: Day Pass (not valid on e-bikes and Cargo Bikes)

The Day Pass costs £12 and includes unlimited pedal bike rides for 24 hours. The pass is not valid for e-bike or cargo bike rides.

This option is best for long days out. During the 24 hours the Day Pass is active, you won't be charged any unlocking fees or additional fees (including out-of-bay or out-of-zone charges).

The 24-hour period starts as soon as you purchase the pass, not when you unlock a bike, so please only purchase this once you're ready to ride.

At the end of the 24 hour period, please make sure your bike is returned to the Beryl operating zone, and parked and locked in a Beryl Bay. If your bike is not parked in a Beryl Bay at the end of the 24 hour period, you will be charged the standard out of bay fee.
If your bike is outside the operating zone at the end of the 24 hours, you'll be charged an initial out of zone fee. This may then rise to a penalty charge of £80 if the bike is not returned to the operating zone within the following 24 hours.

NOTE: Day Passes can only be used on a Pedal Bike, e-bikes and cargo bikes are not included.

Additional charges

Out-Of-Bay Fee: £5

You'll be charged the convenience fee if you end your ride outside of a designated parking bay (exemptions apply to Day Pass riders only).

The fee covers the operational cost incurred to return the bike to a bay so another user can ride.

Out-of-Zone Fee: £5

Beryl operates within large operating zones, agreed with the local authority. If you end your journey outside the red-outlined zone on your in-app map, you will be charged a fee.

Out-of-Zone Fee +24 hours: £80

If the bike is not brought back into the operating zone within 24 hours, an additional fee will be charged to cover the cost of recovering the bike.

Unlocked Vehicle Fee: £10

At the end of your ride, please make sure you lock your bike correctly to end your ride. Please check in the app to make sure your bike has correctly registered as locked. Unlocked and unattended bikes are at higher risk of being stolen or vandalised, and they will not be available for other users to hire. You will be charged a flat fee, including your ride price.
