When you first register to use a Beryl e-Scooter we mention that we share data with the UK Department for Transport (DfT). This article helps you understand what we share and why. This only applies if you have used an e-Scooter. If you only use Beryl Bikes or e-Bikes then we do not share any data with the DfT.

Why are we sharing data with the DfT?

As part of our licence to operate e-Scooters, we are required to share some data to help the DfT understand how e-Scooters are being used, and how they can be promoted as a safe and sustainable transport option.

The research that the DfT is conducting will ultimately inform any decisions they make about the long term usage of e-Scooters in the UK.

What data are we sharing?

We are sharing some pseudonymised journey data, including the approximate time, location, duration and distance travelled, which is linked to your Beryl account (but not linked to your contact details).

We are sharing detailed journey route data but this is not linked to you in any way. The DfT will not be able to see specific routes that you have taken.

We may also share your contact details for the sole purpose that the DfT may contact you for further research.

You can read more about how we handle your personal data in our privacy notice.
