🛴 Who Can Hire a Beryl E-Scooter?

Thinking of hopping on a Beryl e-scooter? Before you ride, make sure you meet the legal requirements below.

✅ Rider Requirements

To hire and ride a Beryl e-scooter in the UK, you must:

  • Be 18 years or older

  • Hold a valid UK driving licence (provisional licences are accepted)

E-scooters in the UK are classified as Personal Light Electric Vehicles and are treated as motor vehicles. That means a driving licence is required by law. We do not accept paper licences.

📸 Providing Your Driving Licence

Before you can ride, you'll need to verify your licence. Here's how:

  1. Open the Beryl app

  2. Upload a clear photo of both the front and back of your physical driving licence

  3. Complete a selfie verification in the app

  4. Wait for your licence to be approved by our system

Once your licence is verified, you're all set to start riding.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • You must have a valid physical driving licence in your possession

  • Provisional driving licences are accepted

  • Paper licences are not accepted

  • If your licence is not valid or fails verification, you won't be able to hire an e-scooter but can still enjoy our pedal & e-bike selection
